The competitive programs are open to athletes who wish to compete in events offered by the various biathlon organizations in which the membership covers.

 Junior Boys/Girls 13 -14 Not permitted to ski with rifle
 Senior Boys/Girls 15-16 Permitted to ski with rifle only on the range
 Youth Men/Women 17-18 Permitted to ski with rifle only if in possession of PAL    license.
 Junior Men/Women 19-20 Must have PAL license to participate with 0.22 Rifle
 Men/Women 21-34 Must have PAL license to participate with 0.22 Rifle
 Masters 35 and up Must have PAL license to participate with 0.22 Rifle

Members who wish to attend training camps and/or compete at international events, must be in possession of a Canadian Passport, and become familiar with requirements of transporting a rifle across international borders.

In order to participate in the competitive program, an athlete must be:

  • A registered member of Lake Superior Biathlon
  • In possession of proper fitting ski equipment
  • In possession of PAL for member who are over the age of 18
  • Have experience in cross-country (freestyle) skiing techniques; or
  • Enrolled in a Nordic training program

Under the supervision of the head coach, each athlete will follow a yearly training regimen specifically geared towards their chosen competition goals.

Lake Superior Biathlon is a member of Biathlon Ontario and subsequently that of Biathlon Canada.  It is the responsibility of each athlete and parent(s)/guardian(s) to become familiar with our organization rules, regulations, and Code of Conduct.  These can be reviewed under the Athlete's Resources on the Biathlon Ontario website.

 
The Athlete competitive programs runs on Saturday afternoons from 2:00 - 4:00pm throughout the training seasons.

Each training session typically consists of:

  • Briefing of days event
  • Warm-up/zeroing
  • Training serials and practice
  • Cool-down
  • Debriefing/summary of days event
Athletes are invited to view the provincial and national biathlon websites for upcoming races and events.
